De Havilland Canada DHC-8-400 Dash 8
The DHC-8-400, marketed as the Q400, is the largest and fastest Dash 8, stretched to a 32.8 m fuselage seating up to 90 passengers versus roughly 50 on the -300. Its Pratt & Whitney Canada PW150A engines drive six-blade propellers and, combined with an Active Noise and Vibration Suppression system, let it cruise near 360 knots -- turboprop speeds close to those of regional jets -- while still using short runways. Entering service in 1999, it became the dominant Dash 8 variant and remains widely operated by regional airlines.

Did you know?
The Dash 8-400's 'Q' stood for Quiet, an active system damping propeller vibration that would otherwise reach the cabin.
