British Aerospace RJ-85

The Avro RJ85 is a re-engined, updated version of the BAe 146-200, produced after the aircraft's manufacturer was renamed Avro International Aerospace. Its four smaller engines, rather than the usual two, keep it exceptionally quiet, letting it fly into noise-restricted airports like London City that many other jets can't use. Its short-field capability opened up smaller regional airports beyond the reach of most twin-engine jets its size. It remains in active service today, particularly with regional and specialist operators valuing its unique noise and runway performance.

In CatchFlights

In CatchFlights the British Aerospace RJ-85 starts as a Rare catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you.

A catch counts for the manufacturer British Aerospace, the BAe 146/Avro RJ family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.
