Boeing 737 MAX 9
The Boeing 737 MAX 9 is a stretched version of the 737 MAX family, seating more passengers than the standard MAX 8 on the same basic wing and engines. It competes directly with Airbus's larger A321neo, though it typically carries somewhat fewer passengers than that rival. An optional extra emergency exit near the rear of the cabin can be added to meet evacuation requirements at its higher passenger capacity. It has drawn public attention after a mid-flight incident in which an unused emergency exit panel (a 'door plug') detached in 2024.
