Airbus A-340-300
The Airbus A340-300 was the best-selling version of the four-engine A340 family, offering more capacity than the shorter -200 while keeping the same long range. Airlines valued its four-engine layout for the reassurance it offered on very long overwater and polar routes, before twin-engine jets were cleared to fly those same routes. Its extra pair of engines meant higher fuel costs than a twinjet of similar size, which eventually pushed airlines toward more efficient successors like the A330 and A350. A number of retired A340-300s have found second careers as VIP or government transports.
