Gulfstream Aerospace Gulfstream V
The Gulfstream V, later updated and re-marketed as the G550, was the first purpose-built business jet with genuine non-stop range between almost any two major cities in the world, a benchmark that redefined the large-cabin business jet category. Its new BR710 engines and long, efficient wing gave it a decisive range advantage over the Gulfstream IV it succeeded. Governments and militaries adopted militarised versions for VIP transport, airborne early warning, and electronic surveillance duties. It remains one of the most influential business jets ever built, setting the range benchmark every larger Gulfstream since has had to beat.
