Ilyushin Il-96
The Ilyushin Il-96 is a four-engine, widebody airliner developed as the Soviet Union's answer to Western long-haul aircraft like the 747 and A340. Its four engines, rather than the two typical of most modern widebodies its size, made it especially valued for very long routes and remain a deliberate design choice for reliability and redundancy. It has served for years as the primary aircraft used to transport the Russian president and other senior officials. Production has continued in small numbers for government and VIP use even as commercial orders have remained limited.
