Fairchild Dornier 328JET

The Fairchild Dornier 328JET is a small regional jet developed by adding turbofan engines to the existing Dornier 328 turboprop's airframe, letting operators offer jet speed on the same short regional routes. Its high wing and sturdy landing gear, inherited from the turboprop original, suit smaller regional airports with less-developed infrastructure. Fairchild Dornier's bankruptcy in 2002 cut the program short after a relatively small production run, leaving it a comparatively rare sight next to larger, more common regional jets. Its cabin is unusually wide for such a small jet, a legacy of the original 328's design.

The 328JET's high wing and wide cabin, inherited from the turboprop Dornier 328, still give away its non-jet-native origins.

In CatchFlights

In CatchFlights the Fairchild Dornier 328JET starts as a Rare catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you.

A catch counts for the manufacturer Fairchild Dornier, the 328JET family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.
