Sikorsky S-62
The Sikorsky S-62 was an amphibious utility helicopter developed from the S-58 transmission and rotor system. Its boat-shaped hull allowed water landings without floats, making it well suited to offshore and search-and-rescue work. The US Coast Guard operated it as the HH-52 Seaguard, where it became a familiar rescue aircraft for decades. Its large hull and high-mounted tail rotor distinguish it from more conventional land-based helicopters.

Did you know?
The S-62 was Sikorsky's first turbine-powered helicopter, a step that let its Coast Guard rescue crews fly further and faster than earlier piston-engined types.

In CatchFlights
In CatchFlights the Sikorsky S-62 starts as a Legendary catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you. The first catch of a legendary type pays a bonus of its own.
A catch counts for the manufacturer Sikorsky, the S-62 family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.
Catch it yourself.CatchFlights shows the aircraft flying near you on a radar, so a type like this one is only a catch away when it passes overhead. Explore CatchFlights.
