Mitsubishi YS-11

The NAMC YS-11 was Japan's first post-war domestically designed airliner, a twin-turboprop regional aircraft built by a consortium of Japanese manufacturers to revive the country's aircraft industry. It served as a regional workhorse across Japan and a number of export customers from the 1960s onward, valued for its rugged simplicity. Despite reasonable technical success, the program lost money on almost every aircraft sold, and Japan didn't attempt another airliner program for decades afterward. A small number remain airworthy today, including a handful preserved or still flying with government and survey operators in Japan.

In CatchFlights

In CatchFlights the Mitsubishi YS-11 starts as a Legendary catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you. The first catch of a legendary type pays a bonus of its own.

A catch counts for the manufacturer Mitsubishi, the YS-11 family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.

Catch it yourself.CatchFlights shows the aircraft flying near you on a radar, so a type like this one is only a catch away when it passes overhead. Explore CatchFlights.
