Icon A-5
The ICON A5 is an American two-seat amphibious light-sport aircraft whose first production example flew in July 2014, following a concept aircraft first flown back in 2008. Its carbon-fibre, flying-boat-hull fuselage carries Dornier-style sponsons that provide stability on water and double as steps for boarding, while the wings fold for road transport and storage. Powered by a 100 hp Rotax 912 iS turning a pusher propeller, it needs as little as 640 feet to take off from land or 840 feet from water. It was the first production aircraft certified to the full FAA Part 23 spin-resistance standard, a safety feature aimed at recreational pilots.

In CatchFlights
In CatchFlights the Icon A-5 starts as a Rare catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you.
A catch counts for the manufacturer Icon, the A-5 family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.
