British Aerospace ATP

The British Aerospace ATP ('Advanced Turboprop') is a stretched, modernised development of the earlier HS 748, built to compete with newer regional turboprops like the ATR 42 and 72. Its designers focused heavily on reducing cabin noise and vibration, aiming for a quieter ride than typical propeller aircraft of its era. Despite the improvements, it sold in relatively small numbers against its French-Italian ATR rivals. A small number remain in service today, mostly as cargo freighters.

In CatchFlights

In CatchFlights the British Aerospace ATP starts as a Rare catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you.

A catch counts for the manufacturer British Aerospace, the ATP family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.

Catch it yourself.CatchFlights shows the aircraft flying near you on a radar, so a type like this one is only a catch away when it passes overhead. Explore CatchFlights.
