Beriev A-40 Albatross

The Beriev A-40 Albatros was a huge Soviet amphibious anti-submarine aircraft designed to replace the Be-12. It used two main jet engines above the wing and two smaller boost engines near the wing roots for water takeoff, a rare four-engine arrangement. The collapse of the Soviet Union curtailed production after only prototypes were completed. Its size, jet propulsion, and boat hull make it one of the most dramatic amphibians ever flown.

In CatchFlights

In CatchFlights the Beriev A-40 Albatross starts as a Legendary catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you. The first catch of a legendary type pays a bonus of its own.

A catch counts for the manufacturer Beriev, the A-40 Albatross family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.

Catch it yourself.CatchFlights shows the aircraft flying near you on a radar, so a type like this one is only a catch away when it passes overhead. Explore CatchFlights.
