Yakovlev Yak-42
The Yakovlev Yak-42 is a larger, three-engine Soviet regional jet, built to carry more passengers than the smaller Yak-40 while keeping similar short-field capability for the Soviet Union's often poorly developed regional airports. Its T-tail and three rear-mounted engines gave it a distinctive silhouette shared with few other airliners of its size. It became a mainstay of Aeroflot's domestic regional network for years, connecting smaller Soviet cities to larger hubs. A number remain in service today with airlines in the former Soviet Union.
