Yakovlev Yak-28
The Yakovlev Yak-28 was a Soviet twin-jet aircraft family that served as a bomber, reconnaissance platform, electronic-warfare aircraft, and trainer. Its engines were mounted in pods beneath the swept wing, while a long glazed nose housed a navigator in many variants. The aircraft could fly low-level strike missions at high speed but had a demanding reputation among crews. Its many variants made it a Cold War workhorse, though few survive outside museums today.

Did you know?
Western intelligence gave Yak-28 variants three different NATO reporting names — Brewer, Firebar, Maestro — because the bomber, interceptor and trainer looked so distinct.

In CatchFlights
In CatchFlights the Yakovlev Yak-28 starts as a Legendary catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you. The first catch of a legendary type pays a bonus of its own.
A catch counts for the manufacturer Yakovlev, the Yak-28 family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.
Catch it yourself.CatchFlights shows the aircraft flying near you on a radar, so a type like this one is only a catch away when it passes overhead. Explore CatchFlights.
