Sud SO-1221 Djinn
The Sud Aviation Djinn was one of the first successful French helicopters and used an unusual tip-jet rotor system. Compressed air from a turbine was ducted through the rotor blades and expelled at their tips, eliminating the torque that normally requires a tail rotor. This gave the Djinn a very simple tail boom, but the system was noisy and inefficient. It was nevertheless used for training, agriculture, and observation, and remains a fascinating early experiment in helicopter propulsion.

The Djinn served as the French Army's standard helicopter trainer for over a decade, prized for its simple, forgiving handling.
