Schleicher ASH-31Mi

The Schleicher ASH 31 is a dual-class competition glider announced in 2008 that flies as a 21-metre Open Class ship or, after swapping in shorter outer wing panels with removable winglets, in the 18-metre class. The self-launching Mi version carries a 41 kW Wankel engine that raises it to soaring height under its own power, removing the need for a tow plane or winch launch. At full 21-metre span it carries up to 140 kg of water ballast in the wings, giving pilots a wide choice of wing loading for weak or strong thermal conditions. Its high aspect ratio of roughly 33.5 reflects a design focused on maximum cross-country glide performance.

In CatchFlights

In CatchFlights the Schleicher ASH-31Mi starts as a Rare catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you.

A catch counts for the manufacturer Schleicher, the ASH-31Mi family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.
