Schleicher ASG-32EL

The ASG 32 El is the electrically self-launching version of Alexander Schleicher's two-seat, T-tailed competition glider, whose prototype first flew at Poppenhausen on 31 May 2014. In place of the piston engine used by its ASG 32 Mi sibling, it carries a 34 hp synchronous electric motor fed by lithium-ion cells, giving roughly 20 minutes of full-power climb at about 256 feet per minute. That is enough to launch to soaring altitude without a tow plane or winch, then retract the motor for quiet, emission-free flight on its full 20-metre wingspan, with water ballast and double-panel airbrakes shared across the family.

In CatchFlights

In CatchFlights the Schleicher ASG-32EL starts as a Rare catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you.

A catch counts for the manufacturer Schleicher, the ASG-32EL family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.

Catch it yourself.CatchFlights shows the aircraft flying near you on a radar, so a type like this one is only a catch away when it passes overhead. Explore CatchFlights.
