Schleicher ASG-29E

The Schleicher ASG 29 is an 18-metre Class racing glider designed by Michael Greiner as a successor to the ASW 27, first flying on 9 November 2005 and entering production in 2006; shorter wingtips let it also compete in the 15-metre class. The self-sustaining ASG 29 E adds a small retractable SOLO 2350 two-stroke engine, certified in 2008, to restart a climb after misjudging the last thermal home rather than to self-launch from the ground. Its composite wing carries up to 170 litres of water ballast, and more than 300 examples have been delivered, with Karol Staryszak winning the 2014 World Championship flying one.

In CatchFlights

In CatchFlights the Schleicher ASG-29E starts as a Rare catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you.

A catch counts for the manufacturer Schleicher, the ASG-29E family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.

Catch it yourself.CatchFlights shows the aircraft flying near you on a radar, so a type like this one is only a catch away when it passes overhead. Explore CatchFlights.
