Schempp-Hirth Quintus
The Schempp-Hirth Quintus is a single-seat, 23-metre-span Open Class glider developed jointly with Lange Aviation, sharing a wing design whose 18-metre inner section Lange engineered with input from TU Delft's Loek Boermans. That collaboration gave it roughly 20 percent higher wing loading than earlier Schempp-Hirth flagships for stronger climb rates in strong thermals, while it is offered only as a self-launching type with a steerable tailwheel. It proved itself immediately, taking first place in the Open Class at the 2012 World Gliding Championships in Uvalde, Texas, shortly after its December 2011 first flight.

In CatchFlights
In CatchFlights the Schempp-Hirth Quintus starts as a Rare catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you.
A catch counts for the manufacturer Schempp-Hirth, the Quintus family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.
