Republic F-47 Thunderbolt
The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was one of the largest and heaviest single-engine fighters of the Second World War, built around a massive turbocharged radial engine. Its tough structure and eight machine guns made it especially effective as a ground-attack aircraft after the Allies gained air superiority. The P-47 could absorb damage that would down lighter fighters and still bring its pilot home. US service later redesignated it F-47, explaining the name in this catalogue entry.
