Pipistrel Velis Electro

The Pipistrel Velis Electro became the world’s first type-certified electric aircraft in 2020. It was designed chiefly for short training flights, where predictable routes and quick recharging make battery power practical. Its certification marked a significant move from experimental electric aircraft into normal flight-school operations.

The Velis Electro carries two independent battery packs, fore and aft of the cabin, so a single fault still leaves enough power for a safe landing.

In CatchFlights

In CatchFlights the Pipistrel Velis Electro starts as a Rare catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you.

A catch counts for the manufacturer Pipistrel, the Velis Electro family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.

Catch it yourself.CatchFlights shows the aircraft flying near you on a radar, so a type like this one is only a catch away when it passes overhead. Explore CatchFlights.
