Mil Mi-24
The Mil Mi-24 Hind is unusual among attack helicopters for also carrying a substantial troop compartment, letting it deliver eight soldiers directly into combat alongside its own rockets, missiles, and cannon, a hybrid gunship-and-transport role few other helicopters attempt. Soviet troops in Afghanistan relied heavily on it for both close air support and rapid troop insertion into contested landing zones. Its heavily armoured cockpit and high speed for a helicopter of its size made it a genuinely difficult target for ground fire during the Afghan and later conflicts it flew in. It remains in service with dozens of air forces worldwide, and has seen extensive, costly combat use over Ukraine.

Did you know?
Its heavily glazed, stepped tandem cockpit gives the Hind an unmistakable double-bubble silhouette shared by no other helicopter design.

In CatchFlights
In CatchFlights the Mil Mi-24 starts as a Legendary catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you. The first catch of a legendary type pays a bonus of its own.
A catch counts for the manufacturer Mil, the Mi-24 family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.
Catch it yourself.CatchFlights shows the aircraft flying near you on a radar, so a type like this one is only a catch away when it passes overhead. Explore CatchFlights.
