Mikoyan MiG-29

The Mikoyan MiG-29 is a Soviet-designed air superiority fighter, built to counter American fighters like the F-15 and F-16 at the height of the Cold War. Its widely spaced twin engines and unusual intake design let it keep flying safely even after ingesting debris from rough, unprepared airstrips close to the front line. Excellent agility at low speed made it a favourite at international air shows, where pilots demonstrated manoeuvres few Western fighters of the era could match. It remains in service with numerous air forces worldwide, decades after its Cold War debut.

In CatchFlights

In CatchFlights the Mikoyan MiG-29 starts as a Very rare catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you.

A catch counts for the manufacturer Mikoyan, the MiG-29 family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.

Catch it yourself.CatchFlights shows the aircraft flying near you on a radar, so a type like this one is only a catch away when it passes overhead. Explore CatchFlights.
