Kawasaki UP-1
The Kawasaki P-1 is a Japanese maritime patrol aircraft designed from the outset to hunt submarines rather than being adapted from an airliner. Its four turbofan engines offer long over-water range, while a fly-by-light control system uses optical signals resistant to electromagnetic interference. The aircraft carries sonar buoys, radar, magnetic sensors, and anti-submarine weapons internally. Its four-engine layout makes it a rare modern alternative to the Boeing P-8, which uses only two engines.

In CatchFlights
In CatchFlights the Kawasaki UP-1 starts as a Legendary catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you. The first catch of a legendary type pays a bonus of its own.
A catch counts for the manufacturer Kawasaki, the UP-1 family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.
Catch it yourself.CatchFlights shows the aircraft flying near you on a radar, so a type like this one is only a catch away when it passes overhead. Explore CatchFlights.
