Jodel D-18

The Jodel D18 was developed from 1971 as a low-cost, wood-and-fabric two-seat homebuilt aimed squarely at private owners rather than flying clubs, first flying in 1974 and going almost straight into amateur production. Side-by-side seating under an enclosed cockpit and a cantilever low wing on fixed conventional gear kept the design simple to build and fly. A tricycle-gear version, the D19, followed for constructors who preferred nosewheel handling, and both were later adapted into the D185 and D195 to meet Fédération Aéronautique Internationale microlight rules. Amateur builders continue to complete new D18s and its derivatives today.

In CatchFlights

In CatchFlights the Jodel D-18 starts as a Rare catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you.

A catch counts for the manufacturer Jodel, the D-18 family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.

Catch it yourself.CatchFlights shows the aircraft flying near you on a radar, so a type like this one is only a catch away when it passes overhead. Explore CatchFlights.
