Joby JAS4-1
The Joby S4 is an electric vertical-takeoff aircraft developed for air-taxi service. It uses six tilting propellers to lift vertically like a helicopter and then cruise on wing-borne lift, aiming to be quieter than conventional rotorcraft. Joby has flown full-scale prototypes and pursued US certification for commercial passenger service. Because it remains a pre-service eVTOL design, any sighting represents a rare test or demonstration aircraft rather than a normal scheduled flight.
Did you know?
Any sighting of a Joby S4 is a test or demonstration flight, since the eVTOL air taxi has yet to enter commercial passenger service.

In CatchFlights
In CatchFlights the Joby JAS4-1 starts as a Legendary catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you. The first catch of a legendary type pays a bonus of its own.
A catch counts for the manufacturer Joby, the JAS4-1 family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.
Catch it yourself.CatchFlights shows the aircraft flying near you on a radar, so a type like this one is only a catch away when it passes overhead. Explore CatchFlights.
