Ilyushin Il-18
The Ilyushin Il-18 was a four-engine turboprop airliner, roughly the Soviet Union's answer to Western contemporaries like the Lockheed Electra and Vickers Vanguard. Its rugged, simple design and strong short-field performance suited the often poorly developed airfields it operated from across the Soviet Union and allied nations. It was widely exported to countries aligned with the USSR, becoming a familiar sight well beyond Soviet borders. A number of surviving examples remain in cargo and utility use in parts of the world today.
