Guizhou JL-9 Shanying

The Guizhou JL-9 Shanying is a Chinese advanced jet trainer developed from the J-7 fighter family. It retains the older fighter’s compact shape and single engine but adds a modern cockpit and enlarged wing for training missions. Naval versions have a strengthened undercarriage and an arrestor hook for carrier-approach practice on land. The aircraft gives Chinese pilots a lower-cost step between basic trainers and advanced frontline fighters.

Did you know?

The JL-9's slender fuselage and small delta wing trace directly back to the J-7 fighter, making it look like a 1960s interceptor in trainer colours.

In CatchFlights

In CatchFlights the Guizhou JL-9 Shanying starts as a Legendary catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you. The first catch of a legendary type pays a bonus of its own.

A catch counts for the manufacturer Guizhou, the JL-9 Shanying family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.

Catch it yourself.CatchFlights shows the aircraft flying near you on a radar, so a type like this one is only a catch away when it passes overhead. Explore CatchFlights.
