Grumman UF Albatross
The Grumman UF Albatross was an amphibious rescue aircraft with a deep boat hull, retractable landing gear, and large radial engines mounted above the wing. It could land on open water to recover downed aircrew, a capability that made it invaluable in the Korean and Vietnam wars. The aircraft’s tall hull and wingtip floats gave it the appearance of a flying boat that could also use normal runways. Many later entered civilian service as expedition and utility aircraft.
