General Motors TBM Avenger
The Grumman TBF Avenger, built in large numbers by General Motors as the TBM, was the largest single-engine carrier aircraft of the Second World War. Its internal torpedo bay and three-person crew made it a formidable anti-ship and anti-submarine aircraft. Avengers helped sink Japanese battleships and carried future US president George H. W. Bush on his wartime missions. Their large radial engine and deep fuselage make them far bulkier than the fighters that shared carrier decks.

Did you know?
Pilots nicknamed the portly Avenger the 'Turkey' for its ungainly shape on the ground.

In CatchFlights
In CatchFlights the General Motors TBM Avenger starts as a Legendary catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you. The first catch of a legendary type pays a bonus of its own.
A catch counts for the manufacturer General Motors, the TBM Avenger family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.
Catch it yourself.CatchFlights shows the aircraft flying near you on a radar, so a type like this one is only a catch away when it passes overhead. Explore CatchFlights.
