Fly Synthesis Catalina

The Fly Synthesis Catalina NG is an Italian light-sport flying boat, introduced at the 2010 Friedrichshafen Aero show and built almost entirely from fibreglass and carbon fibre. Its strut-braced high wing and side-by-side open cockpit sit above an electrically retractable tricycle undercarriage engineered specifically to survive repeated exposure to salt water, with materials and processes chosen to resist marine corrosion over years of amphibious use. Designed to comply with both European microlight rules and US light-sport aircraft regulations, it gives private owners an affordable way into amphibious flying that was previously the preserve of far more expensive seaplanes.

In CatchFlights

In CatchFlights the Fly Synthesis Catalina starts as a Rare catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you.

A catch counts for the manufacturer Fly Synthesis, the Catalina family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.

Catch it yourself.CatchFlights shows the aircraft flying near you on a radar, so a type like this one is only a catch away when it passes overhead. Explore CatchFlights.
