Diamond DA-36 E-Star
The Diamond DA36 E-Star was a technology demonstrator for hybrid-electric aviation rather than a conventional production aircraft. It combined a small diesel generator with an electric motor and flew using a serial-hybrid propulsion system. In 2011 it set several world records for electric aircraft, including a speed record in its weight class. The project showed that electric motors could provide useful aircraft propulsion years before battery-only designs became common in aviation discussions.

In CatchFlights
In CatchFlights the Diamond DA-36 E-Star starts as a Legendary catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you. The first catch of a legendary type pays a bonus of its own.
A catch counts for the manufacturer Diamond, the DA-36 E-Star family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.
Catch it yourself.CatchFlights shows the aircraft flying near you on a radar, so a type like this one is only a catch away when it passes overhead. Explore CatchFlights.
