Curtiss TP-40 Warhawk

The TP-40 was a rare two-seat conversion of the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, the single-seat American fighter-bomber that first flew in 1938 and went on to serve on nearly every WWII front, from North Africa to China to the Pacific. Curtiss and field depots modified a small number of late-model P-40Ns by adding a second cockpit and duplicate flight controls behind the pilot, removing internal fuel tankage to make room, so instructors could fly alongside trainees while retaining the P-40's genuine handling characteristics. Only a handful were built, making the TP-40 one of the rarest P-40 variants, unlike the thousands of single-seat fighters it was derived from.

In CatchFlights

In CatchFlights the Curtiss TP-40 Warhawk starts as a Rare catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you.

A catch counts for the manufacturer Curtiss, the TP-40 Warhawk family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.

Catch it yourself.CatchFlights shows the aircraft flying near you on a radar, so a type like this one is only a catch away when it passes overhead. Explore CatchFlights.
