Boeing EA-18 Growler

The Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is a substantially larger, redesigned development of the original Hornet, sharing its general layout but with almost no interchangeable parts despite the similar name. Its enlarged wing and more powerful engines give it noticeably longer range and heavier weapon load than the original Hornet it replaced aboard US Navy carriers. A specialised electronic-warfare variant, the EA-18G Growler, replaces the gun with jamming equipment for suppressing enemy air defences. It remains the primary carrier-based strike fighter for the US Navy today, alongside the newer F-35C.

In CatchFlights

In CatchFlights the Boeing EA-18 Growler starts as a Very rare catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you.

A catch counts for the manufacturer Boeing, the EA-18 Growler family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.

Catch it yourself.CatchFlights shows the aircraft flying near you on a radar, so a type like this one is only a catch away when it passes overhead. Explore CatchFlights.
