Agusta AW-149

The Leonardo AW149 is a medium multirole military helicopter developed to bridge the gap between light utility helicopters and larger, heavier battlefield transports. It shares design lineage and some systems with the civilian AW189, letting Leonardo spread development costs across both military and offshore markets. Its cabin can be reconfigured for troop transport, medevac, or armed escort roles without major structural changes. Several export customers have adopted it as a modern replacement for aging Cold War-era helicopter fleets, valuing its digital cockpit and twin-engine safety margin.

In CatchFlights

In CatchFlights the Agusta AW-149 starts as a Rare catch. The tier is an editorial judgement of how special a sighting of this type is. The more often you catch it, the closer it moves to Common for you.

A catch counts for the manufacturer Agusta, the AW-149 family and the model in your collection, and the daily Type Rating quiz asks about the types of each family.

Catch it yourself.CatchFlights shows the aircraft flying near you on a radar, so a type like this one is only a catch away when it passes overhead. Explore CatchFlights.
